After a full day of last-minute prep... the crew of 4 is onboard and casting off the North House Folks School dock at 4 pm. Shortly after they left the dock, a farewell was sounded by a long blast of a cannon!

It felt surreal. There had not been any time to absorb the magnitude of what was happening. There still wouldn't be time, the focus now was on our first leg to Marquette.

The starting crew was a powerhouse crew. With Mark Gordon from Knife River, who knows Lake Superior so well. Along with Eric Brossier from France, who is one of the most accomplished high-latitude ice sailors in the world.

Just moments before we released the deck lines... saying goodbye to friends who

came down to bid farewell.
