Buying a Sailboat?

One day, I glanced over my shoulder in our office and saw a sailboat on Lonnie’s computer screen. What the heck? He said he was looking, just learning. He shared that he’d always dreamed of sailing to Arctic latitudes like the explorers did centuries ago.
Fast forward a couple years, and bam – finally found “THE ONE”. It is a workhorse; simple, safe, 36', steel hull, and insulated for the Arctic… off to Seattle to check it out! Mark Gordon came along to help assess the boat and the decision to purchase.

The boat, a Brent Swain design, was built in 1999 and wetted in 2000. The man who built it hardly got to sail it. Its next owner let it sit in the marina for years. When the time came to haul it out for inspection, it was covered in 12” thick mussels – what a job. The engine could barely propel the boat forward to the lift because it was so heavily caked. Years of marina salt water had attacked the steel haul with electric pitting.
Overall though, the boat was right for the Arctic! Puchase made!!! Fall 2021.
The beginning of a new chapter!
