Can you imagine this in the high mountain passes of the West in December?

Originally, we considered working on the boat in Seattle to get it ready for our project, but we quickly realized that might take some time. It felt better to do all that prep at home. It would also better position the boat for a sail towards Greenland.
The decision was made to replace the existing stainless steel mast with a lighter one, so that was left behind. The boat was loaded and ready to travel. A rare sight to see such a large boat coming down the highway from Washington state, through snowstorms in the northwest, and ultimately arriving in Minnesota on the first day of winter. Dec 21st 2021.

It was the first time I set eyes on it. It seemed humongous. It was draped in snow and ice. Standing on its steel deck for 5 minutes froze my feet in my winter boots. I thought, shit, this is going be COLD. It felt so intimidating and so surreal.
